Three Bestselling Novels: Lonesome Dove/Leaving Cheyenne/the Last Picture Show
Published in Hardcover by Outlet (June, 1994)
Author: Larry McMurtry
Average review score:

Lonesome Dove
Lonesome Dove is one of the best books I have ever read. It has drama, action, love and everything that makes a good book good. The story begins with the author describing the characters and the story, and you really can connect with the characters. The main character is Gus McCrae, an ex Texas Ranger who is very lazy, and loves to drink. Despite this, he is an excellent ranger and his name is known all throughout America. The other main character is Call. He is a hard working, stubborn man who doesn't like ot talk alot. The story goes on from there. I recomend this book for advanced readers, who want a spellbinding story.

Outstanding, exciting & entertaining account of early Texas
I have read "Dead Man's Walk", "Comanche Moon","Lonesome Dove" and am now starting "Streets of Larado". My only disappointment is that the books don't contain a map depicting the locations of the major events. I wish the author could post one, so I can track the events and better relate to the actual locations. I loved the books- I grew up in West Texas and can identify with much of the landscape descriptions.

Loved reading three of McMurtry's novels at one whack-
Larry McMurtry has an easy-going, though smart, style, that I identify with deeply. He doesn't try to pummel you with big words and confusing sentences. He writes like it feels.

Cheyenne Dad (Desire, 1300)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (15 June, 2000)
Author: Sheri Whitefeather
Average review score:

EXCELLENT STORY ABOUT FAMILY
Here we have the champion bull rider Dakota Graywolf willing to follow the Cheyanne tradition of taking on his "sister's" children. Also meet his sister Mary, who offers her whole hearted support and a little sass.

But Great Grandpa Harold understands Dakota better than he thinks. Dakota needs to find his true love. Annie Winters! The one who spurred on his recovery even though she didn't know it.

Finally a woman who lives the essence of true love [even though she doesn't know it] keeping herself for her own true love and offering him her greatest gift of self and love. Shame on you Dakota for all your laisons.

The Blending and bonding of the three boys with Dakota was so very touching, as he didn't know the first thing about being a dad. Annie was a perfect person to understand the needs of the little ones and came to understand the needs of her husband. She waited for him long enough. Silly man.

Definitely Recommended and would like to see S. Whitefeather go into the Super rommance series to put more body to her wonderful stories.

Cheyenne Dad
Sheri Whitefeather combines suspense, mystery & unbridled passion wrapped around a great story! A must read for romance novel readers & others who want a book that's fast-paced & fun! Excellent reading! Pat Klein Portland, Oregon

Cheyenne Dad
Mrs. Sheri Whitefeather has written another excellent book. This one included children and two people who loved one another for years and adopted their friend and sister's children as their own. Of course, Dakota being an ex or retired bullrider made it more interesting. Mrs. Whitefeather puts alot of feeling into the stories that she writes. She in my opinion is an excellent romance American Indian writer. I look forward to endless books from her. I just have the problem of reading her books faster than she can write them. Everyone needs to read everyone of her books to appreciate her writing skills. Please Mrs. Whitefeather, keep up the great writing, I look forward to "Night Wind's Woman" due out in November.

Cheyenne Dog Soldiers: A Courageous Warrior History

Hard to come by, but if you can get a hold of it-do!
If you are at all interested in the Plains Indians, Native American Art, or the history of the Cheyenne, do everything you can to get a hold of this CD, which takes you on a tour of an exhibit at the Denver Historical Society Museum. The center piece is the legder art of the this fiece warrior society, but many other artistic and historical items are also included.

I have read extensively on this subject, and visited any number of museums, yet I still learned a lot from the text and the narration. In addition you can click on any of the items in the virtual tour and get a detailed description along with a history-and there are many, many items. There is also a separate section on the ledger art which is clearly displayed a beautiful.

Kids will love going through the virtual exhibit, though I found clicking the next button, and viewing items one by one more helpful. There is also a special kids section, so the entire family can enjoy it.

This is well worth the price!

I have never seen anything so detailed!
This CD is unlike anything I've ever seen. Especially in history and art subjects. It even translates all 100 or so works of ledger art and speaks it out loud in Cheyenne! By a real person!

Amazing depth yet usable by my children.
The Virtual walk through of the History museum gives you the feeling of having visited the exhibit.

Every single drawing is detailed with indian and soldier accounts of the drawings; subject, date, etc.

Schools should require this kind of history lesson.

The Bend in the River: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Hawkshadow Pub Co Inc (May, 2002)
Author: Susan Gibbs
Average review score:

You can't put it down!
This book grabs your attention in the first few pages and keeps you hooked until the end. Historical facts back up a believable story that you can relate to. Action and emotion are in every chapter and keep the reader up late reading just one more chapter. The heroine, Emma Jordan, is a survivor of the best kind. The book gives us a glimpse of life in the old frontier and the American spirit that made this country great.

Best Book I Ever Read!
I got a copy of this book directly from the author. I read it in just two days! What a great story! The pace of the book was very fast and exciting, while being a very moving story. Now, I want to buy more books for friends and family. I loved the story. It was interesting, unpredictable and most of all, very well written. The characters were the kind that stick with you long after you've finished the book. I recommend this book to anyone who loves GOOD, no, GREAT historical fiction! Buy it and you'll see!

Cheyenne Again

Cheyenne Again
This literary piece is well written with the exquisite paintings that amplify the story over all. To have the visual images interact with the writing so well, I have to wonder how such an artist would only have illustrated a few books. A must read and a visual pleaser to the afficianados of art. Irving Toddy is a fine artist whose work should be sought out more. Eve Bunting is a good writer whose work is always complemented by the illustrator. In this case, to have a Native American-Navajo illustrate and to have lived the characters experiences is great.

A simple, yet profoundly moving tale of Native Americans.
I teach reading and language classes. This book is an excellent resource to encourage reading, to introduce new language, and to increase my students knowledge and understanding of other cultures.

Cheyenne Captive (Zebra Heartfire Romance)
Published in Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (Mass Market) (April, 1994)

Cheyenne Captive
Even though it took me nearly 10 years to track down this book, what a great read! I couldn't put it down. I am now the proud owner of all of Georgina Gentry's books. Can't wait to read her new book coming out sometime in August 2002.

The Book that got me Hooked
The story of Iron Knife and Summer Sky is both compelling and timeless. Though it is a romance novel and you expect the hero and heroine to be together in the end, there are several places in this book where you begin to doubt Iron Knife and Summer Sky will, indeed, live happily ever after. Such as when the Cavalry finds and "rescues" Summer and Iron Knife becomes severely ill. Iron Knife and Summer sizzle when together, yet to picture them as real people you could almost imagine them sitting side by side, content simply to be in each other's company. The subplot of Grey Dove is equally compelling and enthralling. I have read western themed books by Johanna Lindsey, and "Cheyenne Captive" ranks on a par with Ms. Lindsey's "Savage Thunder". Exciting, thrilling, and engrossing, "Cheyenne Captive" will sweep you away and make you believe in True Love.

Cheyenne Memories
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nebraska Pr (December, 1986)
Authors: Stands in Timber, John Stands, and Margot Liberty
Average review score:

Family History
John Stands in Timber is my daughter's great-grandfather on her father's side. I am purchasing this book to let her know the history she shares as a Northern Cheyenne and to show her how much her great-grandfather cared about his people. I have read the book previously and appreciated the sense of cultural awareness John portrayed through his words. It is a lesson for us all to remember where we came from and appreciate how we got where we are now. I would recommend reading this book, to learn the history of the people and to appreciate that he wasn't just a historian, but a father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather and also a good person.

A Cheyenne Chronicle
The Cheyenne was undoubtably one of the most remarkable tribes of the Great Plains. Now you can have a very convenient one volume tribal history of them by John Stands In Timber with the help of anthropologist Margot Liberty. Stands In Timber,an old time Cheyenne, in his whole life collected the memories of his elders about the history of their Nation and he succeeded in editing it to a narrative from the creation to the reservation times. The effort of the author is of a rare kind and the result is also a rare one: you can learn the history of a native nation from the inside.

Cheyenne Princess

One of her Best
This was my introduction to Georgina Gentry's writing. I loved this book and have read every one of her books, except for the first book in her Panorama of the West Series, Cheyenne Captive (I think that's it). Only because I haven't been able to find it!! I loved Trace Durango and Cimarron Heinrich and all of the Durango family.

GREAT!
I hade the fortune of finding this book at a garage sale for about a quarter, and I have to say it was a great way to spend a dead president. This book is sizziling and a great Cinderella, western, and Indian love story. Plus both characters are Indian and not an Indian warrior kidnapping a white innocent, this book has steaming love scenes and I would definitely recommend it!

Cheyenne Splendor

An unforgetable story about a once in a lifetime love.
Wow! Georgina has done it again!! I loved this story. I couldn't put it down and couldn't stop thinking about how it was going to turn out. So many twists and turns. Iron Knife and Summer Sky definately have found their once in a lifetime love. A must read for Georgina Gentry fans or anyone else looking for a story about the untamed west of long ago, and a Cheyenne dog soldier that would go through hell and back against all odds to be reunited with his lover and their children.

The power of love significantly revealed in this story.
Georgina Gentry has done it again. What a story! Iron Knife and Summer were truly meant for each other. But when Summer found out that Iron Knife wasn't as faithful as she thought, their relationship began to fall apart. Summer's mother was ill back in Boston and decided to visit with her for the last time. She took all three children and set out for Boston.

Summer's devious father sent false messages to both Summer and Iron Knife's friend who worked for a newspaper in Denver to try and break up their marriage.

Iron Knife took matters in his own hands. He decided to dress up like a white man in fine clothes and travel the trains to see Summer in Boston. He needed to hear from her own lips if she didn't want him anymore like the false messages had indicated.

Along the way, Iron Knife tried to save a young woman from being abused by a drunken cad, who turned out to be the son of the wealthy man who owns most of the town. Needless to say, Iron Knife missed the train to Boston while getting knocked out by the Town's Sheriff and thrown in jail.

When Summer's father finds out that Iron Knife was on his way to see his daughter, he cashes in on a favor a judge owed him. The judge sends orders to throw him in a chain gang far away.

I won't give the story away. Read it!! All the characters in this book are very colorful and exciting. Sometimes you'll catch yourself wanting to scream at the bad guys, but then Georgina Gentry puts all the players at work to make for a wonderful ending...

Great! Reading
Really enjoyed this book. After reading all the Preacher books and almost all the Mountain Man Series, I felt that the author was repeating many sections in some of the books. Not this one! It tells the story of Preacher when he started out. So it was all new material. It was hard to put down!

Very good book
Good Book Would like to read more. Please send a list of others
